Addressing the third ground-breaking ceremony of the Global Investors Summit at Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited the leading members of India Inc to visit his parliamentary constituency Varanasi to explore investment opportunities there.

During the meeting Modi said that it was not a small development that a government was re-elected in UP for the second consecutive time after more than three decades. “It shows that the government has earned the confidence of the people. Investors are willing to invest in UP because of the improved law and order situation, investment-friendly atmosphere and the infrastructural development taking place under the leadership of chief minister Yogi Adityanath,” he said.

He pointed out “I am confident that UP, with its consumer base of 16%, will give momentum to India’s growth story. Every sixth man in India is from UP. More than a dozen towns in the state have a population of over 500,000. Every district has a special product, which is being promoted by the government. The state has the highest number of MSMEs. The state produces all grains and a wide variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables”.

The event, which saw over 1,400 projects worth over £8 billion come in, was the first significant event hosted by the BJP government after it returned to power. In its previous tenure, BJP organised two ground-breaking ceremonies - the first (in 2018) brought investment worth £6.18 billion and the second (in 2019) witnessed investment proposals worth £6.72 billion.

The event saw the coming together of India’s top businessmen and industrialists, including Gautam Adani, Kumar Mangalam Birla and Niranjan Hiranandani.
