International drug racket busted, large quantity of drugs, arms seized

Jalandhar: The Jalandhar police commissionerate dismantled an international narcotic network following a 15-day operation, leading to the arrest of eight people from various locations and seizure of a substantial quantity of drugs, arms and ammunition.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Jagroop Singh from Tarn Taran, Bhavjot Singh from Jalandhar, Ravinder Singh from Amritsar, Anil Gupta from Kartarpur, Bikramjit Singh and Tarsem Singh from Amritsar, Sumit Chole from Uttar Pradesh and Pratap Singh from Amritsar.

An FIR has been registered under Sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act and 29/22-61-85 of the NDPS Act at New Baradari Police Station, Jalandhar. The police have seized 100 gm of heroin, a 32-bore pistol, two live cartridges, 1,06,860 narcotics tablets, 4,320 capsules and a car.

Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma detailed the operation, stating that the arrests were initiated based on a tip-off. Jagroop Singh and Bhavjot Singh, involved in selling illegal arms, were intercepted near the Account Office, Railway Colony Jalandhar, with 100 gm of heroin found in their car.

Jagroop Singh confessed to the involvement of Ravinder Singh and Anil Gupta, who were subsequently arrested. Ravinder Singh’s interrogation led to the arrest of Bikramjit Singh and the recovery of over 1,00,000 narcotic tablets and 4,320 capsules.

Lster, Bikramjit Singh’s links to Tarsem Singh and Sumit Chole were uncovered, leading to their arrests. Pratap Singh was also apprehended based on further confessions, with the seizure of additional 6,400 narcotic pills.

Swapan Sharma added that the initial investigation suggested that narcotics were manufactured in Gujarat and distributed to wholesale pharmaceutical owners in Agra, who had also been implicated in this case. The drugs were shipped to Amritsar via courier services, with evidence suggesting international distribution as well. He said further investigations were underway.
