India's exports of arms and defence technologies has touched a record £1.3 billion in the financial year 2021-22, with 70% contribution coming from the private sector and rest of 30% from public sector.
The defence exports witnessed considerable increase over the preceding fiscal year were mainly to the US, Philippines and other countries in South-East Asia, West Asia and Africa. Sanjay Jaju, additional Secretary (defence production) said that in 2021-22 we have recorded £1.3 billion of exports, which is highest ever number that we have ever recorded.
A major export deal inked in January this year was the $375 million contract to export BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines, which will pave the way for more such deals with the country as well as other Asean countries like Indonesia and Vietnam.
The defence exports in 2021-22 were almost eight times of what they were recorded in last five years. Defence minister Rajnath Singh will reward a private sector organization and a public sector one that performed best in defence exports at first ever “Artificial Intelligence in defence” symposium and exhibition.
Ajay Kumar, Defence Secretary said, during the event 75 newly developed AI products and technologies with application in defence will be launched. This products are in areas of automation/unmanned /robotics systems, cyber security, human behavior analysis, intelligent monitoring system, logistics and supply chains management, speech/voice analysis and C4ISR (Command, control, communication, computer and intelligence and reconnaissance) systems. Apart from 75 products being launched, another 100 are in various stages of development .
