Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann accused governor Banwarilal Purohit on Saturday of “conspiring to seize power by issuing threats to oust the elected government”, a response to the governor’s threat to apprise the President of the “failure of constitutional machinery” in the state and consequent action. Mann also said “Punjab has suffered the most from the misuse of Article 356 in the country…”
Mann said the state’s law and order situation is well managed and that his government has launched a crusade against drugs, and that the governor’s remarks have shown disrespect to the sentiments of 350 million Punjabis.
The relationship between the governor and the CM has deteriorated further in recent months. The governor has been accusing the CM of not responding to his letters highlighting state-related issues, while Mann has alleged the governor is interfering in the functioning of the government.
