People living in Birmingham who plan to travel to Amritsar can finally rejoice as Birmingham Airport and Air India have announced the launch of direct flights to Amritsar from Birmingham.
Preet Kaur Gill, MP Birmingham Edgbaston, and the Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for British Sikhs stated, “The establishment of direct flights between Birmingham and Amritsar, which both the late Lord King of West Bromwich, and myself lobbied in favour for many years, is fantastic news. These flights will not only make it easier for Punjabi’s in the area to travel to Amritsar, but also provides a great opportunity for local and regional businesses to both deepen existing ties and create new ones.”
The launch will be taking place in the new year. It will make Birmingham airport the only UK airport to operate non-stop services on this route.
Air India director Pankaj Srivastava said the new service recognised consumer demand from the Midlands to Amritsar. "Air India is always very sensitive to the needs of the consumer and is pleased to be connecting the two cities thereby adding a new city pairing for Air India’s expanding global network with the only non-stop UK Amritsar service.”
