Former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar was on Thursday sworn in as the 14th vice president of India in the presence of several national leaders.
Dhankhar took the oath in Hindi in the name of god.
President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to the 71-year-old Dhankhar in a brief ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, which was attended by outgoing Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former President Ram Nath Kovind and former Vice President Hamid Ansari among others.
A number of Union ministers, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman, S Jaishankar, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla also attended. Before the swearing-in, the Election Commission’s notification declaring the election of Dhankhar was read out.
