A Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) district president, who is an eyewitness in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, had a narrow escape recently when he was allegedly attacked by two bike-borne assailants who tailed his SUV and fire at him near Gola town in Kheri district. His police security guard was on leave.

An FIR has been registered under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC against "unidentified" persons at the Gola police station. A forensic team also visited Kheri to collect evidence as the ballistic report was important for the case.

The farmer leader, who was attacked, has said that “I was going home when two bikers attacked me. They first shot at one of the tires of my car. They then tried to open the door. However, when they failed, they opened fire at me but I managed to escape. I couldn’t identify the attackers as it was too dark. They eventually fled. My security guard had gone to see his ill son but he came to the spot after hearing about the incident. "

He added: "I am an eyewitness in the Kheri violence case but I don’t have personal enmity against anyone. I have filed a complaint against unidentified persons and the police have registered a case. They have assured me that the accused will be arrested soon. ”

Kheri Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Suman said that prima facie the attack on the farmer was "suspicious". However, he did not want to say much until the investigation was complete. Suman said, “This incident is linked to a high-profile case so I immediately carried out an investigation along with some forensic experts. A forensic science laboratory team from Lucknow had visited here. We are taking the support of technical experts and collecting all possible evidence such as CCTV footage. "
