Abducted Bengal trader rescued in Jalandhar

Jalandhar: Jalandhar police have rescued a West Bengal-based potato trader from kidnappers who were demanding a ransom of Rs 400,000 for his release, and had sent a video showing him being assaulted, to his wife. Superintendent of police H P S Khakh said Dulal Ghosh from Siliguri had come to Jalandhar to purchase potato seeds, when he was abducted from outside a cold store near Kartarpur and taken to a cold store near Ballan village on December 4. His abductors chained him, made a video clip and asked him to tell his wife back home to pay a ransom of Rs 400,000 to save him. Khakh said that while he was talking to his wife in Bengali, he also asked her to inform the police. An operation to find Ghosh was launched by the special branch in-charge inspector Inderjit Singh and sub-inspector Shiv Kumar, who rescued the trader and nabbed the three accused.
