Gujarat assembly election on Dec 1, 5

The Election Commission announced that the Gujarat assembly election will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5. The counting of votes and declaration of results will be on December 8.

The term of the 182-member Gujarat assembly ends on February 18 next year.

Addressing a press conference, chief election commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar announced the election schedule. "The date of counting for Gujarat Assembly polls will coincide with Himachal Pradesh on the 8th of December. The entire process of Assembly elections to be completed on the 10th of December," Kumar added.

A total of 51,782 polling stations will be set up across Gujarat. Of these, 1,274 will be managed by women polling and security personnel.

Eighty-nine seats will go into voting in phase 1 of Gujarat Elections on December 1. On the other hand, 93 seats will go into voting in second and final phase on December 5. Counting of votes will be on December 8.
