Kolkata: Gujarat's Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Hardik Patel met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata and offered to campaign for her party during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The Patidar agitation leader also took to Twitter and tweeted, ''I will definitely come here to campaign during the Lok Sabha elections in 2019... But we all have to be united to fight those who are trying to divide the country."
After his meeting with the TMC chief, Hardik told reporters that he had assured full support to Mamata in the 2019 General Elections. Patel, however, said that the meeting did not involve any political agreement between the two. Patel hinted that the West Bengal Chief Minister had invited him to join her party whenever he desired to do so.
"I am not a political leader, I am an agitator. I did not come to strike any political deal or for any other political talk, but she told me that 'if you ever want to join a political party, my party is always open'," he said.
He also described the West Bengal Chief Minister as "lady Gandhi". "I saw lady Gandhi. She is a simple and selfless person. After Indira Gandhi, she has been the epitome of the struggle for the cause of the people," he said.
