Four BJP-governed states - UP, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Odisha - said they would give weightage to Agniveers for recruitment to their state uniformed services once the youths had finished their military service. Odisha also said it would reserve jobs for Agniveers, as did Madhya Pradesh where priority in police jobs for ex-Agniveers had already been announced a day after the Agneepath scheme was announced by the Centre in June 2022 when Shivraj Singh Chouhan was chief minister.
Similar decisions have already been announced in other states, including Haryana (10% reservation in police, mining and forest guards), Uttarakhand, and in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir (10% quota in police). There exists also 10% reservation for former Agniveers in the RPF, CISF and BSF.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath said former Agniveers would be recruited to the UP police and Provincial Armed Constabulary, while Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai said they would be recruited as constables and jail wardens in the police department and as forest guards.
In Gujarat, CM Bhupendra Patel posted on X saying the “Gujarat govt will give priority to [former] Agniveers in the recruitment of armed police and SRP (State Reserve Police)”.
