Fast food restaurant, McDonald's will be offering table service for the first time in the UK, in order to ward off competition from upmarket burger chains, such as Byron's and GBK.

Customers will be able to place their order with a member of staff carrying a tablet computer, or directly through a digital kiosk at the table. The option of ordering at the till will still be available.

McDonald's will be trialling the table service at branches in Mottram, Greater Manchester, and will be extended to 11 more restaurants across the UK in August. If successful, the trial will be rolled out nationally.

The table service at McDonald's have had successful table service trials in France, Germany and Australia.

A spokesperson for McDonald's stated, “We have listened to customer feedback and to meet their evolving expectations we are significantly investing in our restaurants to create new environment and improve the customer experience. We are testing some new concepts, such as table service, whereby customers place their order via our new digital kiosks and then have their food brought to them.”
