Many elderly people start to worry that they may be developing dementia whenever they forget what they had entered a room for, or forgotten where they had placed their glasses. But a study suggests that it is a positive thing to notice a memory lapse, as people with dementia often lose awareness of memory gaps two to three years before the condition develops.
Dr Robert Wilson, of Rush University in Chicago said, “Our findings suggest that unawareness of one's memory problems is an inevitable feature of late-life dementia-related changed in the brain.”
