According to new figures from an analysis by the Marriage Foundation, fewer couples from poorer backgrounds are getting married than at any time since the 1970s, while marriages are on a rise among wealthier couples.

The new data shows “an alarming widening of the marriage gap between rich and poor”, as wealthier couples are four times more likely to tie the knot, compared to couples from poorer backgrounds.
