Malayalam and Bollywood director and screenwriter Sangeeth Sivan passed away in Mumbai at the age of 61. He is survived by his wife, Jayashree, and children Sanjana and Shanthanu. Born into a family of esteemed artists, Sangeeth was the eldest among three siblings, including renowned cinematographer Santosh Sivan and director-producer Sanjeev Sivan.

Sangeeth's directorial journey began with the Raghuvaran-starrer 'Vyooham' (1990), but it was the Mohanlal-led 'Yoddha' that solidified his position in the industry. He collaborated with Mohanlal again on projects like 'Gandharvam' and 'Nirnayam'. In Hindi cinema, he helmed films such as 'Zor', 'Kya Kool Hai Hum', 'Apna Sapna Money Money', and 'Yamla Pagla Deewana 2'. His final directorial venture was the web series 'Bhram' (2019), starring Kalki Koechlin and Bhumika Chawla. Sangeeth's upcoming project, announced in March, was 'Kapkapiii', a remake of the Malayalam film 'Romancham', featuring Shreyas Talpade and Tusshar Kapoor.

Ritesh Deshmukh, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tusshar Kapoor, and other celebrities paid tribute on social media. Prithviraj Sukumaran shared a black-and-white photo of Sangeeth on his Instagram stories, writing, "Rest in peace Cheta! (sic)," accompanied by a heart emoji.
