AR Rahman shared insights into his meeting with Michael Jackson before the singer's death in 2009. In a video from a Malaysian media event, the music composer can be seen discussing with fans during a meet and greet. Rahman revealed that the King of Pop was close to singing for Shankar’s Enthiran, starring Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai.
In early 2009, Rahman was in Los Angeles, USA, where he was introduced to someone who managed Michael Jackson. "I expressed my interest in meeting him. An email was sent, but there was no response for a week. Then, I received an Oscar nomination (for 'Jai Ho' from Slumdog Millionaire). Michael's team then contacted me saying he wanted to meet. I responded, saying I preferred to meet him after winning an Oscar," Rahman recalled.
And upon winning the Oscar, Rahman described the feeling as being "on top of the world." "I met him at a residence in LA the day after winning it. He was very gracious; we discussed music and world peace. He suggested we collaborate on the next 'We Are The World' and introduced me to his children. He even demonstrated his heartfelt dance moves," Rahman recounted.
Upon returning to India, Rahman shared details of his meeting with Michael Jackson with Shankar. The director inquired if Jackson would collaborate for *Enthiran*. "Shankar sir asked me if he would sing for the film. I was amazed and asked, 'Will he sing a Tamil song?' He replied, 'Whatever you suggest, we will work on it together.'" Unfortunately, the collaboration did not materialise as Michael passed away in June that year. "He was unwell at that time," Rahman noted.
