Bollywood actors Aishwarya Rai, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Sobhita Dhulipala are poised to represent India at the forthcoming Cannes Film Festival. Aishwarya is a seasoned attendee of the festival, while Aditi made her debut in 2022.
The 77th edition of the festival will run from May 14 to 25. The theme this year is 'Many Ways To Be An Icon', focusing on confidence and self-empowerment. Actor Sobhita Dhulipala, who recently made her Hollywood debut in Dev Patel's 'Money Man', will also walk the red carpet. Meanwhile, Ankush Bahuguna will be the first male beauty influencer from India to attend Cannes.
In a statement, Aditi, who is in the news for her role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Heeramandi', expressed her excitement about the upcoming festival stating, "I strongly advocate that women should confidently embrace their unique selves... It is an honour to be aligned with a brand that has consistently championed the cause of women's empowerment."
Music icon King is anticipated to attend, alongside stars like Demi Moore, Meryl Streep, and George Lucas. Meryl is set to receive a special Palme d'Or award. This year's Palme d'Or winners include George Lucas and the Japanese animation studio Ghibli. Additionally, two Indian films, 'Santosh' by Sandhya Suri and 'All We Imagine As Light' by Payal Kapadia, are slated for screening at the festival.
Assam's feature film ‘Kooki’ to be screened at Cannes
Before its nationwide release on June 28, "Kooki," a Hindi feature film produced in Assam, will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 2024. The screening is set for May 21 at Palais H, as mentioned in an official statement. Producer Junmoni Devi Khaund expressed her gratitude, stating, "I am deeply honoured to present my debut feature film, 'Kooki,' at the esteemed Cannes Film Festival. This platform not only celebrates cinematic art but also amplifies voices addressing crucial global issues." Khaund highlighted that the film tackles a topic demanding urgent international attention and dialogue, making its Cannes debut particularly significant.

India is gearing up to host a 'Bharat Parv' at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, inviting esteemed dignitaries and delegates worldwide to explore the diverse creative avenues the country offers. A delegation comprising representatives from both central and state governments, alongside industry members, will present India's vibrant creative economy at Marche du Films through various significant initiatives, as announced by the Information and Broadcasting ministry. This marks the inaugural hosting of a "Bharat Parv" at the Cannes Film Festival, aimed at engaging with global film luminaries, directors, producers, buyers, and sales agents, while spotlighting India's abundant creative talent and opportunities.
