‘Aattam’ wins best film, Rishab Shetty grabs best actor award at 70th National Film Awards

The winners of the 70th National Film Awards were announced at the National Media Center in New Delhi. The ceremony, to be held later, will honour the best Indian films of 2022 across languages. Eligible films were certified by the CBFC between January 1 and December 31, 2022. This year’s jury includes Feature Film Jury Chairperson Rahul Rawail, Non-Feature Film Jury Chairperson Nila Madhab Panda, and Best Writing on Cinema Jury Chairperson Gangadhar Mudalair.

The Malayalam drama ‘Aattam’ won Best Feature Film at the 70th National Film Awards, while Rishab Shetty took home the Best Actor award. The Best Actress award was shared by Nithya Menen and Manasi Parekh. ‘Ponniyin Selvan: 1’ emerged as the biggest winner, securing four awards.

Additional awards included Best Director for Sooraj Barjatya (Uunchai), Best Supporting Actress for Neena Gupta (Uunchai), and Best Supporting Actor for Pawan Malhotra (Fouja). ‘Karthikeya 2’ won Best Telugu Film, while special mentions were given to Manoj Bajpayee for ‘Gulmohar’ and Sanjoy Salil Chowdhury for ‘Kadhikan’.

The award ceremonies were delayed by two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The 69th National Film Awards, held in 2023, recognised the best Indian films of 2021. ‘Rocketry’ won Best Feature Film, Allu Arjun took home Best Actor, and Alia Bhatt and Kriti Sanon shared the Best Actress award.
