Sonali Bendre, known for her roles in blockbuster films like "Hum Saath-Saath Hain," "Naaraaz," "Sapoot," and "Tarazu," recently opened up about her experience with the media. She revealed feeling like a "caricature" in her 1998 film "Duplicate," directed by Mahesh Bhatt and starring Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla in key roles.
Reflecting on the movie, Sonali remarked, "There was a film I was doing at that time called Duplicate where I was approached to play a grey character in some way. It was very exciting and challenging for me to portray that character. We started preparing for the role in that way and also started shooting it accordingly, but slowly, as things moved, I felt I became a caricature and not really the grey character I was supposed to play."
"Every time a song from 'Duplicate' plays and people mention the film, what stands out to me the most is how much a story can derail and deviate from its original intent. It's been a significant learning experience for me. Over time, you question whether you misinterpreted something or if it was the other way around. But moving forward, I don't want to be confined to stereotypes. In my second innings, I aim to portray characters that break these moulds," Sonali Bendre shared.
