Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur announced that he will begin shooting the sequel to his 1983 film ‘Masoom’ early next year, with original stars Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah returning.
They will be joined by Manoj Bajpayee, a past collaborator on ‘Bandit Queen’, and Kapur's daughter, Kaveri. He shared the film update on the sidelines of the curtain raiser press conference of the 55th International Film Festival of India in New Delhi.
Shekhar Kapur revealed that shooting for ’Masoom 2’ will begin in February-March 2025, with the script ready. He shared an interesting anecdote, saying he once forgot the script on a flight from Dubai, but it was returned with a note from the flight attendant praising ‘Masoom’. Kapur believes the lost script’s return is a sign, and while the sequel will have a different storyline, it will maintain the same core values.
At the press conference, Shekhar Kapur expressed interest in re-releasing ‘Masoom’ in theatres. The 1983 film, starring Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Tanuja, and others, centres on a family torn apart when a woman discovers her husband’s affair and the child from it. Kapur, also the festival director for the upcoming IFFI, shared that he agreed to be part of the event in Goa without hesitation.
