Veteran actor Shabana Azmi recently shared the secret behind her long-lasting marriage to lyricist Javed Akhtar. In an interview, Shabana, who has been married to Javed since December 1984, revealed that her husband believes their relationship thrives because they "don’t meet too often."
Shabana Azmi, daughter of the late renowned poet Kaifi Azmi, shared insights about her marriage to Javed Akhtar in an interview. She mentioned, "Javed says the key to our successful marriage is that we don’t meet too often, as we're both busy running in different directions. We come from similar backgrounds—our fathers were poets from UP and communists, and we share common views on many things. Given these factors, people often say we should have had an arranged marriage."
Over the years, Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar have often spoken about the deep friendship that underpins their relationship. In the same interview, Shabana elaborated on their marriage, saying, "Touchwood, we have a happy and strong relationship. Javed always says, 'Shabana is my best friend, and even marriage could not change that.'
Javed Akhtar was previously married to screenwriter Honey Irani. In 1984, Javed and Shabana married after his split from first wife. Honey and Javed share two children – filmmaker Zoya Akhtar and actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar.
