While many actors avoid being in the spotlight to prevent rumours of a relationship, Bipasha Basu, who turned 36 last week, refuses to lead her life that way. “I will not hide from people. I could be friends with anyone and go for dinner with them. Just because I am dining with someone does not mean that I am dating him. I am not going to live by the rules made in the business. I will lead my life the way I want,” she says.
Bipasha is clear about not letting link-ups affect her. “For me, these are things that I don’t think about, any more. I feel you should focus on the work that you do and the life that you lead, instead of getting bothered by all this.”
Even as she continues to live by that mantra, the actoress does admit that her straightforward ways have often landed her in trouble. “I have been vulnerable as I speak my mind,” says Bipasha, who was recently linked to her co-star Karan Singh Grover, after he announced his divorce with wife Jennifer Winget. But she has not let these rumours get in the way of her friendship with Karan. “Karan and I get along very well. This is why I feel that it (our chemistry) reflects well on the screen, too.”
Bips feels that she needs to be given more respect for her honesty and candidness. “I have been a part of this industry for 14 years now, and I have never hidden anything from the public. I feel I deserve more respect for being the person I am, and how I have been all this while,” she says.
