Despite how hard biopics are, they are currently the more popular choice to get the audience to connect with the film. Making of a biopic isn't easy, as the lead actor not only has to characterise as person, but needs to look convincing and connect with the audience as well. Following in the footsteps of Priyanka Chopra, who played Mary Kom in 'Mary Kom', and Farhan Akhtar, who was Milkha Singh in 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', Punjabi rockstar Diljeet Dosanjh is all set to emulate hockey star and former captain of the Indian team, Sandeep Singh.

Titled 'Soorma', the movie is produced by actress Chitrangada Singh who approached the actor to play the central character. It is, however, to be noted that he wasn't the first choice for the role. Sandeep said actor Ranveer Singh was first approached for the role, but he had to decline due to date issues. When asked about Dosanjh, he said, “It took a lot of effort for Chitrangada Singh to put his project together. She met a lot of filmmakers, actors and writers for the project. We wanted someone who looks real while playing me on screen.”

He elaborated how Diljit wasn't more of an actor in 2016, and was just a Punjabi artiste. However, after 'Udta Punjab' and 'Phillauri', the makers were forced to change their perception and rethink our decision. “We eventually zeroed in on Diljit paaji. It was a near-unanimous decision. Today, if you see him on the field while shooting, he has transformed himself. He has put in a lot of effort to get his act right.”
