As the year draws to an end, we look at some of the Bollywood movies to watch out for in 2020! Here's our pick:
1. Chhapaak : 10th January
Starring Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey in the lead role, the film by Meghana Gulzar is inspired by the life or acid attack survivor Laxmi Aggarwal. In 2005, she was attacked by a man for rejecting his marriage proposal. After multiple surgeries, she relentlessly petitioned to stop the sale of acids in India which led the Supreme Court to regulate the sale of acids.
2. Chhalaang : 31st January
The film is a unique social comedy based in a small town of Uttar Pradesh directed by Hansal Mehta. It stars Rajkummar Rao and Nushrat Bharucha. It is co-produced by Ajay Devgn, Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg.
3. Malang : 14th February
Malang happens to be a contemporary revenge drama starring Disha Patni and Aditya Roy Kapur. It is directed by Aashiqui 2 director, Mohit Suri.
4. Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan : 21st February
Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan is an upcoming romantic comedy drama and a spin-off of the previous Shubh Mangal Saavdhan. The movie is based on homosexuality and is directed by Hitesh Kewalya, starring Ayushmann Khurana and Jitendra Kumar.
5. Angrezi Medium : 20th March
A comedy-drama directed by Homi Adajania, it is the second installment of a franchise that began with Hindi Medium. It stars Irrfan Khan (who also featured in the first film), Kareena Kapoor and Radhika Madan in leading roles.
6. '83 : 10th April
A biopic based on the life of veteran Indian cricketer Kapil Dev, the movie talks about the time India won the coveted World Cup in 1983. Directed by Kabir Khan, the movie stars Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, the real-life couple pairing up for their first film following their marriage last year.
7. Bhuj - The Pride of India : 14th August
Ajay Devgn will essay the role of Wing Commander Vijay Karnik. During the 1971 Indo-Pak was, Vijay was a squadron leader in charge of the airbase in Bhuj, Gujarat. He was the one responsible to keep the airbase operational despite the bombing from Pakistan.
8. Sardar Udham Singh : 2nd August
Shoojit Sircar's directorial 'Sardar Udham Singh' is a biopic on a revolutionary freedom fighter Udham Singh. The film stars Vicky Kaushal in the lead role.
9. Prithiviraj : 13th November
Akshay Kumar and Manushi Chillar will be playing the historical icon Prithviraj Chauhan and his better-half Sanyukta in the period drama directed by Chandraprakash Diwedi.
10. Brahmastra : Release expected around Diwali
The Dharma Productions movie starring Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna in the lead was slated to release in the summer of 2020. However, with incomplete VFX work and post-production patchwork remaining the film is now pushed to release around Diwali.
