Actor Sonakshi Sinha reveals that nearly a decade ago, she made a conscious decision to shift her career trajectory towards roles that presented challenges. This decision has led her to projects like 'Dahaad' and now 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar'.
In 'Dahaad', directed by Reema Kagti, she portrayed a no-nonsense small-town cop, while her role as the vengeful Fareedan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's pre-Partition era Lahore-set drama about courtesans is earning her acclaim.
The actor shared that portraying the dual roles of Rehanna and Fareedan in the eight-part Netflix series wasn't easy, but she managed it with the trust Bhansali had in her abilities. Bhansali, who previously produced Sonakshi's 2012 film 'Rowdy Rathore', believed in her capacity to deliver. "If you give me the right roles and the right directors, I can do magic," Sonakshi stated in an interview.
She also acknowledges the contributions of her former collaborators such as Kagti, Vikramaditya Motwane ('Lootera'), and A R Murugadoss (director of 'Akira') for envisioning her in diverse roles.
"I'm seeking roles that truly challenge me and enable me to fulfil my potential... Once I shifted my focus to roles that genuinely challenged me, I evolved into a better actor. These experiences have shaped me into who I am today," she added.
