Professor Gurharpal Singh received a lifetime achievement award at the 7th Sikh Studies Conference held by Zoom on 7 and 8 May at the University of California, Riverside.

The award was in recognition of Gurharpal's pioneering contribution to Punjab and Sikh Studies that included, among other things, the formation of the Punjab Research Group (1984), and as the founding editor of the International Journal of Punjab Studies (Sage, 1994) and Sikh Formations: Religion, Culture, Theory (Routledge, 2005). Drawing on his current research supported by the Leverhulme Trust, Gurharpal delivered a paper at the conference on 'The partition of India and the Sikhs: some unspoken assumptions'. Outputs from this project are forthcoming in Sikh Nationalism (Cambridge University Press, January 2022) and The Partition of India and the Sikhs (2023).
