Goan families in large numbers from Swindon, Leicester and London gathered at Cranford Community College in West London for their annual festivities.

While the rules for the future of Goan-Portugese and other EU citizens remain unclear in the light of Brexit, the event organised by Goan Association UK (established in 1966), witnessed a great gathering of around 10,000 people with Konkani music, dance, food, drinks.

Cllr Rabi Martins told the Hindustan Times, “Brexit is no longer in the forefront of Goans’ minds. In fact, the concern is more about the overall economy and how the pound’s fluctuations will affect decisions such as buying houses. After all, Goans are survivors, we have seen the worst in Africa too.”

There are three Goa-origin MPs in the House of Commons: Labour MPs Keith Vaz and his sister Valerie Vaz and Suella Fernandes from the Tories.
