The front page article “Britain’s Jobs Boom, Thanks to Women” in Daily Mail and other dailies is interesting to read, analyse and digest. A record 32:81 million people are in employment and some one thousand people are finding a job daily, indeed a boom that surprises many Pundits, especially gloom and doom predictors who may be wondering how could they be out of touch with the economy to such an extent, who feared mass unemployment after Brexit vote, instead employment is at its highest since record began in 1971. The most interesting aspect is that 3 out of 4 people finding employment are women; thus stay at home mothers are in sharp decline. EU workers are still flocking UK, a land of milk and honey, in search of employment and finding jobs in Blooming Britain! Could all these statistics painting rosy picture be interpreted in a different way! How come queues outside Food Banks are lengthening, violent crime on the rise which is normally associated with youth unemployment? As we say, there are lies, damn lies and statistics!
One reason may be that most of these jobs are low paid jobs in service industry and the reason why so many women, mothers flacking job market is to make ends meet, put food on the table for the family, especially children, as one wage packet is not sufficient to insatiable ever rising cost of living in blooming Britain? It would be interesting to know views and personal experiences of other readers and contributors to Readers Voice column.
