Shams Shamsullah, the proprietor of The Orbit, left the bags next to street bins near his shop in Cricklewood Broadway. He was traced after contents in the bag showed they were connected to his shop. He was convicted of fly-tipping which is an offence under section 33 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. He was fined £1,000 for the offence, £800 costs and £100 victim surcharge at Brent Magistrates’ Court.
Cllr George Crane, Brent Council’s lead member for the environment, said: “Fly-tipping is extremely anti-social behaviour: it’s unsightly and not fair on anyone in the vicinity of the offence. We take fly-tipping offences very seriously in Brent and encourage anyone who sees items dumped and has evidence as to where it came from on the streets log it on our web page brent.gov.uk/flytipping so we can investigate.”
