Washington: US lawmakers are doubling down on support for India in its ongoing troubles with what they say is an expansionist and predatory China, amid Washington's worsening ties with Beijing and Moscow - now being seen as allies. Two US senators, Republican Bill Hagerty and Democrat Jeff Merkley, ramped up a month-old resolution reiterating the United States’ recognition of Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India.
Washington's recognition of the McMahon Line as the international border between China and India is reaffirmed in the resolution, which also rejects Beijing's assertions that Arunachal Pradesh is part of its territory as part of its increasingly aggressive and expansionist activities.
"At a time when China continues to pose severe and increasing dangers to the free and open Indo-Pacific, it's important for the United States to stand shoulder to shoulder with our key partners in the region - notably India," stated senator Hagerty in a statement. “This bipartisan resolution expresses the Senate’s support for unequivocally recognizing the state of Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India, condemning China’s military aggression to change the status quo along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), and further enhancing the US-India strategic partnership and the Quad in support of the free and open Indo-Pacific.”
