Her Poes Garden residence in Chennai covered one third of her declared assets. She has estimated that the land with a built-up area of 21,662 square feet is worth Rs 439.6 million. She purchased the property in 1967 for Rs 13.2 million.
In the 25 page affidavit, Jayalalithaa said she had deposited Rs 98 million in various banks. She had invested Rs 316.8 million in five firms, including Jaya Publications and Kodanadu Estate, as a partner. She has nine vehicles which have a total a market value of Rs 4225,000.
Gold articles weighing 21kg and 280grams and silver articles weighing 1,250kg, seized in connection with the disproportionate assets case, were lying in the treasury of the Karnataka government. Their value could not be ascertained, she said.
Jayalalithaa, who was sworn in as chief minister two weeks ago, has to seek election to the state assembly within six months of taking office. She was disqualified as a lawmaker in September last year, when a Bengaluru court convicted her in a corruption case. Sent to jail for three weeks, Jayalalithaa had to step down as chief minister.
