Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and actor Alia Bhatt have reportedly been summoned by the court of additional chief metropolitan magistrate in Mumbai in connection with a row surrounding their upcoming movie 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'. The movie is based on Hussain Zaidi's book 'Mafia Queens of Mumbai'.
One of the four children adopted by Gangubai, Babu Rawji Shah has filed a criminal defamation case, claiming that the chapter on his mother is defamatory, tarnishes her reputation, and violates his right to privacy and self-respect. The defamation suit is filed against the filmmaker, the actress, and Zaidi. A media report states that both Sanjay and Alia will have to present themselves before the court on May 21.
Meanwhile, Bhansali, who had tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this month, has now tested negative and will resume work on the remaining parts of the movie. 'Gangubai Kathiawai' is scheduled to release in theatres on July 30.
